Your Choice of Hue On A Suit

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

How do men make their mind as which shade suit to go in for when they have no idea about what appeals to most? Suits mainly come in three major shades: Black, Dark Grey and Dark Blue.

Black is often thought of as being the color to wear either at the office or church. However, with the right shirt it can look incredibly smart and trendy in a social environment.

Dark Grey is best applied in a business setting. It implies a sort of authority, and goes well with almost any color of shirt.

Dark (Navy) Blue tends to be a bit “average”. You will blend-in with the crowd in a Navy Blue suit, something you may, or may not wish to do. That said, it’s safe to wear for virtually any occasion. If you are fair skinned you will need to wear a darker colored shirt.

Other shades. Brown is least preferred suit in business atmospheres. Men do not mind wearing brown suits for social occasions accompanied by tweed jackets.

White may look absolutely stunning but the occasion has to be proper (like Tom Hanks in the film “Big”). But, the exact definition of “the occasion has to be proper” is difficult to elaborate or laid stress on. Hence give a proper though. In any case, a white suit has its constraints in day to day use.

Light Grey suits can look great in warmer environments or during the summer, and when worn with a pastel shirt they can be very appropriate. Coming back to the issue of skin, if yours is fairer, something more bold might accompany it better.

Obviously, there are a number of factors one must consider when determining what color of suit will best suit their needs. Ask yourself questions: “When will I be wearing the suit? Is it mainly for business, or will it be worn casually”? Take note of your dimensions and your complexion, and whether the color will draw attention or go unnoticed.

No matter what color of suit you choose, always make sure you’re comfortable in your decision. Bring someone along with you in order to get honest feedback while you try suits on - good feedback will ensure you choose something right for you and makes you feel great. Whenever I went to buy a great suit I brought my wife with me. If she really liked it, I knew it was the right choice. Take it into consideration. It’s a great place to start.
